The “Langheck” was the absolute culmination of Porsche 917 development as a long distance racer, endeavouring to achieve low drag, and hence low fuel consumption, with stability.
For Le Mans 1971, the Longtail Coupe of Vic Elford and Gérard Larrousse, entered by Martini International Racing Team, attained a speed of 240 mph (386 km/h).
